Influences:
Tolkien and Lewis are the obvious starting points, mainly for the grand scope of their stories. More direct influences would include wordsmiths like Patricia McKillip and Guy Gavriel Kay, with nods to Susan Cooper, Ursila K. LeGuin, Lloyd Alexander and others.
Similar To:
I would love to one day be mentioned in the same breath as Patricia McKillip or Guy Gavriel Kay. High literary praise, at least for my ears.

Favorite authors---

Movies/TV
Love...movies! The original Star Wars changed my life as a kid. The first Matrix was a gasp-inducing revelation. In between those movie bookends: Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, A River Runs Through It, Fletch, the original Pink Panther series, Young Frankenstein, The Mission, Memento (brilliant!). And of course, the Lord of the Rings trilogy (I waited 25 years for that one to hit the silver screen, and it was worth the wait. Absolutely pitch perfect, especially the extended editions).

I don't watch much TV (remember, I have eight kids!), though I readily confess to a family weakness for American Idol. Favorites sitcoms of the past: Cheers and Frasier were more my style than Friends and Seinfeld. Current fav was Back to You until it got cancelled. Also, in spite of his tendency to get preachy, I think Aaron Sorkin's stuff is brilliantly written (just got the complete West Wing series DVD set).

Time is running out. The whole world is looking for answers, and what they find is eight-year-old Joshua Chisom. He may not be the hero they were looking for, but he possesses a supernatural resistance to disease and a mysterious gift of healing. Author Dean Briggs writes a modern-day parable of redemption in a story of divine proportions.
The God Spot (1999)
On the edge of the most shocking medical discovery of the last 2000 years, neurosurgery resident Hank Blackaby has no idea the chain of events he is about to unleash or the peril he faces. About D. Barkley Briggs
Son. Husband. Father. Friend. Believer. Author. Dreamer. Screw-up.
Teacher. Giver. Taker. Mess-maker. Broken. Lost. Found. Forgiven.

Married to the girl of my dreams -- twice. Lost my first wife to cancer after 16 years. Together, we had four boys. Pastored a vibrant non-denom church for 11 years. After watching my world crash, needing rest and healing, I moved my family to a new state. Decided an epic fantasy might help my four boys live courageously through their loss (thus The Legends of Karac Tor by Navpress). Lucky enough to have found and caught an amazing, beautiful widow named Jeanie. Together, we have eight kids. That's right, eight! I am in awe of my family.

Check out the footer quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery for why I chose "endless immensity.
