Trapped in the Magic Mirror: Shattering Illusions about Romance and Marriage (2006)
A book for both women and men about how marketing
and movies have colluded to create dissatisfaction
and a sense of always wanting "something more..."
in our lives. This causes conflict in marriages, as women use romance as a way to ease their lack of self-confidence, affirm their worth and value, and reassure themselves that they are loved.
This puts too much pressure on the marriage.
As the honeymoon wears off, husbands withdraw emotionally and often, physically. This intensifies the woman's insecurity and she begins to demand attention and affection. The result is
a "toxic communication cycle" that serves to destroy the marriage. This book offers real help and insight into how to break this cycle and restore harmony and real love and respect in the marriage.
