Life Inside the Thin Cage (2003)
"I don't have an eating disorder, I just watch what I eat..."

Frustrated by the often unrealistic standards of beauty presented by today's media, many women have become trapped in a never-ending pattern of chronic dieting and disordered eating. Daily they endure destructive self-talk such as "I can't eat that or I'll get fat" or "If I could just lose a few more pounds everything would be better."

Disordered eaters come in all shapes and sizes, not to mention all ages and both genders. They are anorexic, bulimic, binge eaters, obsessive exercisers and chronic dieters. Many don't fit popular criteria, falling into the nebulous EDNOS category (Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified).

While their stories are all different, all disordered eaters have at least one thing in common: daily they sacrifice time, energy, dreams, money, relationships and more in their quest for the body they desire.

Addressing the many dimensions of disordered eating, Life Inside the 'Thin' Cage offers a wake-up call and practical steps to those who need healing. Readers will find personal stories, insights into their secret patterns and habits, reassurance that they are not alone, checklists, self-tests, and, best of all, a new road to emotional, physical, mental and spiritual freedom.

About Constance Rhodes
I'm originally from MI. Now I live in the Nashville, TN area where I am the founder of www.FINDINGbalance.com, a faith based health and wellness organization with an emphasis on eating and body image issues. All through my twenties I was completely obsessed with calories, fat grams, how much I weighed, and the size of my jeans. It's not that I wasn't living a productive life - I was married (still am, to a super wonderful guy) and working in marketing at Sparrow Records (Christian div. of EMI Music). But even though things looked ok on the outside, I was pretty miserable. And not very nice. (So I'm told). And then God started helping me break free... So... wrote a book about mystruggle with disordered eating called Life Inside the Thin Cage. It came out in April 2003 through Waterbrook/Random House. Then another, called The Art of Being (www.artofbeingbook.com) came out in 2004, featuring essays from SWITCHFOOT, SARA GROVES, ASHLEY CLEVELAND, JARS OF CLAY, TAMMY TRENT and more. Working on more books now, on all aspects of health and wellnes - physical, emotional, relational, intellectual, and spiritual. Trying to see what kind of 'holes' exist in this market, esp. when it comes to faith based titles (which, with a few notable exceptions, don't tend to be the greatest in the health and wellness department...). If you are someone who wants to be part of changing the world through embracing your imperfections, please sign up to be my friend. Maybe if we all join forces, we can do some amazing things to combat the negativity and phony nature of our culture. Sound cool? One little disclaimer... These days, I'm trying to be a bit more balanced in how much time I spend on the computer. If I'm not careful, I'll spend way more time here than with my family and 'touchable' friends, so thanks for understanding if I don't get back to you right away. In the meantime, you can visit my website at www.FINDINGbalance.com to learn more about the work I'm doing every day.
