"How I Suffered from My Theology" approaches the topic of pain and suffering as many others have such as John Piper's "The Hidden Smile of God," and C.S. Lewis' "The Problem of Pain," but it stands in a category of its own for its Biblical scholarship and yet ease of reading. Unlike so many other "God and Pain" books, this one leaves you feeling hopeful and more in love with God.

"How I Suffered From My Theology" (2006)
When tragedy strikes, we all ask those hard questions; Are all hardships good in disguise? What can be done to make life better? And that really tough one . . . does God really cause or allow suffering?

Jennifer is no stranger to tragedy. While in her early 20's Jennifer's mother-in-law and mother died just one year apart. A year and a half later, her father was killed in a car accident. On that same morning, Jennifer went into cardiac arrest due to complications of a routine surgery; the child she was pregnant with died on that day as well.

Feeling as though she was at the end of her life emotionally, spiritually, and physically, she began to hate God and begged her husband to leave his seminary training. One night she opened her heart to God in prayer - "Please God, help me to understand my pain."

Through intense study and prayer Jennifer rediscovered the overwhelming goodness of God.

This is not a book of tired platitudes. It's a story of how one Pastor's Wife suffered from her so-called Christian beliefs and regained her faith by questioning them.

About Jennifer Brost
I want to thank you all for the warm welcome I've already received on Shout Life!
I am a busy mother of 2 boys, Pastor's Wife, author of "How I Suffered from My Theology: and regained my faith by questioning 3 belief," professional speaker, and President of The Job Foundation.

As a former chronic sufferer of so many maladies, I have a passion for helping others see and feel God's goodness. When I was in my early 20s, my mother-in-law, mother, father, and unborn son all died in a 30 month period. I "coded" and nearly died as well. My husband was in Seminary during this period of pain. Due to the overwhelming grief, and feeling burnt by the Christian community, I denounced my faith in Jesus and walked away from my Lord! I was brought back through an intense study of the Scriptures on the topic of suffering. That was some 6 years ago.
Today, I am happy to be a "Minister's Wife," and enjoy speaking about my book and experience. God has gifted me with opportunities to help others understand God's goodness despite their pain. And I'm not one for cliches. I hate those minimizing comments, "God had a reason!" "It's part of God's plan!" and "We may not like this now, but this needed to happen!" Baloney!!!!!

I'm a busy lady but I'll try to check this often as I can. You can learn more about me, the book, and our non-profit organization at www.deliverancepublishers.com and www.thejobfoundation.org.

Through The Job Foundation (named after our stillborn son, Job), we pay inner-city kids for their grades, require them to save for their futures, and teach them to be financially responsible. My book benefits this organization as well as Shared Hope International (www.sharedhope.org) and World Impact (www.worldimpact.org).

In His Power and Grace,
Jennifer Brost

What to Do (and Not Do) When You Hurt   10/15/2007 - 2:30 PM
No one knew what to do with me. The chaplain gave me hand-outs. The church people force-fed me Bible verses. My friends tried to understand (some of them), but simply could not. My husband's patience had run low. I was grieving. Mourning, and doubled... (login or sign up to read more)
