"All in all The Sunrise stands out from other contemporary Christian bands in my mind with their unique signature sound, slamming grooves & unique approach in delivering a message that doesn't come across as feeling under duress or artificial. This is what makes them so effective in delivering their message to the world." - Indie Music Digest, Feb 8th, 2011.

The Sunrise is a new 1970's Jesus Music Movement style Christian rock duo from Cleveland that features acoustic guitar, keyboards, lead and harmony vocals. Sometimes the duo is fleshed out by bass and drums as it is on our current CD titled "Spread The Word."
Our music is greatly influenced by the "1970's Jesus Movement Music" that was spearheaded by people like Chuck Girard and Love Song, John Fischer, Phil Keaggy, Honeytree, The Sweet Comfort Band, Larry Norman, 2nd Chapter of Acts, and the GREAT Keith Green, etc. This is all such great music, you will do yourself a tremendous favor by seeking it out! We are inspired by the classics but still have a modern feel. We were compared to "A Christian Wilco" and "The White Stripes" by Jesusfreakhideout.com.
Our CD was produced by Fernando Perdomo who flew up to Cleveland from Miami to produce and play drums and bass on the full CD "Spread The Word." Fernando was recently signed for representation by the past manager of KISS! The CD was mastered by Zach Ziskin who has won a Grammy Award for engineering.
The Sunrise CD titled "Spread The Word" has been reviewed Nationally in "Christianity Today Magazine(!!!)" "Skope Magazine," "Indie Music Digest," "NeuFuture Magazine," and the National record and CD collectors mag, GOLDMINE MAGAZINE. This review appeared in the Oct 8th, 2010 issue #788, which hit the newsstands Sept 18th across the country. This is a great review from a secular magazine and compares the songwriting of The Sunrise to "1970's Paul McCartney, Seals & Crofts, Don McLean and Todd Rundgren." WOW! The entire review is on our web site www.thesunrisemusic.com.
The Sunrise has had the opportunity to open for Andy Pratt, (who had the big 1970's hit "Avenging Annie" and is now a Christian artist) at The Winchester Music Hall in Cleveland, Ohio. Andy Pratt called The Sunrise's music "IMPORTANT."
The Sunrise's music has been played on dozens of radio stations both Nationally and Internationally including WHK 1420 AM & WNCX 98.5 FM in Cleveland, Flame CCR 92.1 Wirrel England, KWPB 98.7 Newport Oregon, Corazon 1610 AM Houston, TX, KHCA 95FM Manhatten Kansas, WQLC 102.1FM Lake City Florida, eight internet radio stations so far including jango.com, and we were on the "Christian Talent Spotlight" featuring a live interview and two songs over the GMAP Broadcast Network on June 30th, 2010. In October 2010 The Sunrise song "Holy Light" was in the ARISE RADIO "Listener Top 20" for four weeks, peaking at NUMBER TWO! Also, Jim was among the Top Five Finalists in the Time Warner Cable "Random Acts Of Music" Songwriting Contest in 2010, which was able to be viewed and voted on by literally millions of people.
We have played some great venues in Cleveland including The Winchester Music Hall, Wilbert's, The Barking Spider, The French Creek Nature Center, The True North Concert Series (twice), The Root Cafe, etc.

"it's a fine album with pointed lyrics addressing romantic love, social justice, pride, emotional abuse, spiritual transformation, and even an altar call." -Christianity Today Magazine May 24th, 2011.
"The Sunrise gives light to a new hope & happiness that will hopefully spread to all. These free spirits have made music that is contagious and you will ALL see The Sunrise coming up over the horizon very soon.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5." - Skope Magazine Jan 19th, 2011.
"The Sunrise should be seen as a revolutionary, contemporary Christian act. This is because there has been a lot of complacency and preaching to the choir with a great many CCM acts in the last decade. The Sunrise are able to have a strong, Christ-centered message but are able to wrap it in a very technical and catchy form. They are able to show the beauty present in Christianity while making some great music - buy a copy of "Spread the Word" if you'd like to see what I mean. Rating: 8.0/10." - NeuFutur Magazine January 2011.

So there is all this, but it is nothing if it is not all about worshipping Jesus. We pray that this isn't about us but about Jesus.

Here's this month's Trail Mix. As we travel the Narrow Path [Matthew 7:13-14] we often grow weary and need spiritual nourishment to sustain us and keep us moving forward! I try to provide some nourishment monthly, and I pray this blesses, edifies and lifts your spirit!
Last night, I went to Burger King to get our dinner. I noticed the parking lot lights were not working, and it was eerily dark! As I left the car and headed to the door, a menacing looking young man, cam quickly out of the darkness toward me. Thinking he wanted to ask for some money, I hurried into the store. However, that didn't stop him, as he followed me into BK and walked around the store, as if he was casing it. Even the manager, after she knew he wasn't with me, became concerned, as they just had a customer beaten and robbed five days earlier!
The manager instructed the employees to keep an eye on her and me, as she walked me back out to the car. I couldn't help but notice the young man, still lurking in the darkness of the lot, like a hungry animal waiting to pounce.
I won't lie and say that I wasn't concerned, because when the short hairs on the back of my neck stand up and do everything but say the "Pledge of Allegiance" it is a sign from my spirit that something is a miss! Still, with Jesus, I always feel safe, and while I felt the guy glaring at me as he walked around the inside of the store, I just remembered this promise from Psalms 91:7-16, and claimed these words,
"A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come ear you. Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands, they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life, I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation."
Hang tough for Jesus, children, He hung tough for us!
