About Adelle Arwen
Biography - Adelle Arwen

I was born in Liverpool NSW. At the tender of age of 3, my mum began teaching me piano. I instantly fell in love with the instrument which paved the way for my music education during my early years. I clearly remember the joy of listening to my mum playing the cheerful Chopin Waltz (Opus 18 BI 62). It was so captivating that it caused me and my sister to put on our best sandals, and waltz together around the lounge room. Singing was also highly encouraged in my family. My sister and I would often sing duets to entertain Mum and Dad during long drives from the city to the country towns where we used to live. These sessions included songs like The Gypsy Rover, Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Rock my Soul in the Bosom of Abraham. Dad would sometimes record our young voices for fun.

I became a faithful member of the school choir and won a talent quest performing a solo a ccapella version of "The Lord's Prayer". During my high school years I performed in several stage musicals which included playing the role of Benjamin - in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". I also performed a solo item and showcased my dancing ability in the church musical "The Word Made Music". My love for stage musicals was nurtured as my mother took our family to see the shows of Andrew Lloyd Webber, like Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and The Phantom of the Opera.

As I entered my teen years I eventually completed my Eighth Grade piano exam and Seventh Grade Musicianship (Theory) exam. This period also opened the world of pop music to me. I would often listen to pop rock artists, contemporary gospel music and rock bands. Hence I began singing in these styles as I accompanied myself on the piano. I then began performing in churches, youth groups, weddings and various functions.

However music was never considered as a viable career path in my family. Instead I was firmly ushered to pursue a more "serious" professional career like medicine, law or accounting. I managed to complete an Economics degree from Sydney University and worked for several years in the accounting field. However this made me totally miserable and led me into a long period of depression.

A friend then suggested I do a course with a missionary organisation called "Youth With a Mission" to help my situation. It was here that I found my true calling and vision for life, that is, to use my musical gifts to bring the gospel message of hope and salvation to the world. Due to my own struggles, I especially developed a desire to reach people who are also suffering in life. Coupled with my contact with the Salvation Army in later years, this developed into a desire to become an advocate for social justice in society.

As I began to forge my own music career, I was able to express the reality of my own struggles and how I tapped into the supernatural power and strength of God, to overcome what seemed to be insurmountable obstacles.

By the end of 2008, I will have completed five albums of songs. They are:-
1. Secret Strength Volume 1 - Songs to give you hope comfort and strength in the midst of difficult times.
2. Secret Strength Volume 2
3. Transformation
4. Facets of You
5. Sword of the Spirit

My influences are Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Madonna, Jaci Valesquez, Gloria Estefan and Tina Arena to Ella Fitzgerald, John Farnham, Rick Price and Tori Amos.

Adelle,

Each country or state has it's own requirements. But I believe each parent has a choice of curriculum within those requirements.

I was totally non traditional. I taught when it was got legal in most states and we were a part of the lobbyist that have made it possible to so freely homeschool.

I'll eventually write a blog about my experience in Germany with homeschooling.

There are no disadvantages that I have seen over the years with homeschooling. The parents have their child's best interest at heart, so they always strive to do what is best. An example would be, my son just was not getting math. And he would try to get me to not teach it to him. I did not like math and the fussing he did about math made it even harder for me. So, in the end, I ended up getting him a tutor. There is always a solution to a problem.

Most students that are homeschooled test higher and skip grades, have more confidence. My son did 2 to 3 grades each year and went into the public schools to takes those yearly tests and always scored in the top 97 percentile or higher. We also only spent about two and a half hours a day schooling to achieve that. There was no time wasted with roll calling, telling students to sit down, and such things as that, which in the public school happens because there are several students in the class.

Are you considering homeschooling your child?

You're welcome,
Catherine

Adelle,

It is nice to meet you, a fellow creative person. *smiles* And one that teaches piano and sings. *smiles*

I can tell you about homeschooling and also about our experiences while homeschooling.

Each state has different requirements for homeschooling. Many countries also allow homeschooling.

You pick the curriculum you want to use. I used parts of different curriculums that fit what my son needed. I also made up alot on my own. Most people though find a curriculum they like and stuck with that.

Homeschooling actually improves social skills. First and foremost as a homeschooler you are interacting with your family, extended family, and friends that are all ages. When you are in school most of the time you don't get alot of that interaction. So, as a homeschooler you learn to work with all ages, not just your own age group. Because of that there is no peer pressure. Peer pressure is a big reason that most people lack self confidence.

I'll tell you more, if you would like to know more.

Blessings,
Catherine
