Mothers of the Bible (2009)
Rachel, Hannah and Sarah struggled with infertility. Eunice was a single mom. Eve lost a child, and Naomi lost a spouse. Jochebed gave up her child, and Pharoah's daughter adopted him. Hagar felt rejected, Leah felt unloved, and Job felt abandoned by God. Dena Dyer shares the stories of these and other biblical moms in this poignant devotional book. In 31 meditations, Dyer points moms to the God who longs to meet us in the midst of our circumstances, just as He did for moms in the Bible.
The Groovy Chicks' Road Trip to Love (2006)
Fire up the VW bus for another great road trip with your grooviest pals! The Groovy Chicks' Road Trip to Love tackles another limitless subject--love. It's like "Chicken Soup for the Soul meets Laugh-In with a Christian twist." The stories included here are "lighthearted, not lightweight"--fun, but with a spiritual takeaway. Topics covered include the love of friends, family love, young love, mature love, children's love and God's love. Laurie Barker Copeland and Dena Dyer's 60's alter egos, Pepper and Starshine, provide wacky, wise, and sometimes-poignant sidebars along the way. After reading this book, you'll want to be a Groovy Chick, too...and you can! (But you'll have to read the book to find out how!)
The Groovy Chicks' Road Trip to Peace (2005)
Join "Pepper" and "Starshine," two born-again hippy chicks, as they take you on a wacky and poignant journey to peace with God, yourself, and others. This non-fiction "chick-lit" compilation book is filled with stories from women just like you. Hop in the VW bus for a ride you won't soon forget!
Grace for the Race: Meditations for Moms (2004)
Here are 45 short devotionals encouraging moms to "run smarter, not harder," by surrending their relationships, schedule, and emotions to God. Filled with humorous stories and biblical quotes (called "Notes from the Coach"), this book will inspire busy moms to lean hard into their loving Heavenly Father as they navigate the crazy world of motherhood.
I was challenged by a fellow blogger to write my life story in 100 words...and it was too interesting an assignment to pass up.
Here's mine:
"Born and raised on a Texas ranch. Went to college, where I studied music and writing. Mission work, marriage, miscarriage all followedÂ…I went through a major depression, and God did some major healing in my life. Had a son '98; worked as an entertainer and began to pursue author-dom. Second son came along in '04, and three books followed (a dream come true). The days are long but the years are going by fast. I love Jesus, my family and my life more than I ever thought possible, and I'm grateful beyond words for this adventure He has me on."
What else? Well, I'm the blessed wife of a talented entertainer named Carey and I'm "mommy" to two cutie-boys who keep me laughing (Jordan and Jackson). When I'm not desperately trying to find my keys, I enjoy writing poems, books and short pieces for magazines like Family Circle and Parenting. In my free time (yeah, right!) I also love leading worship, performing with my husband, and speaking to women (especially MOPS and other mom support groups) about leaning hard into Jesus in the midst of a chaotic world. For more information--including advice for aspiring writers and info about my speaking topics--visit my website/blog at http://www.denadyer.com.

My Mom-i-Festo
11/16/2008 - 8:14 PM
I will no longer compare myself to other moms. I have talents, quirks, and special qualities all my own, and I will start to own and (YES!) even celebrate them, beginning today. I will see my weaknesses as God's opportunity to be my strength.
