About Whitecross

WHERE DID SCOTT WENZEL COME UP WITH THE NAME FOR THE BAND:
"The name "Whitecross" was given to me when I was reading the Bible. It was something God gave to me." - Scott Wenzel (HM Interview, HM Issue No. 49, page 17)

All Those Years Ago . . .

"GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD" Promotional Video:

WHITECROSS is a Christian metal band that formed in 1986 in Chicago, releasing their first recording the following year. Their early albums, which often invite comparisons to Ratt, are laced with fast, technical guitar work. With the departure of guitarist Rex Carroll in 1992, the band's sound underwent a drastic change; so much so that many Whitecross fans show a strong preference for either the earlier or later work exclusively.

Whitecross has won three Dove Awards: two for "Hard music album of the year" with Triumphant Return (in 1990) and In the Kingdom (in 1992);and one for "Come unto the Light" from the Unveiled album, which won "Hard music recorded song of the year" in 1995.

In 1998, singer Scott Wenzel took a two-year break to do mission work in South America, and Whitecross was placed on hiatus. Little happened with the band for seven years, except for a couple of reunion gigs featuring both Wenzel and Carroll in 2002.

In 2005, Scott and Rex reunited to record Nineteen Eighty Seven, which featured re-recordings of nine of the ten songs from their self-titled debut ("You're Mine" being the exclusion), as well as a re-recording of the song "Love on the Line" (previously unavailable on Whitecross CD) and a new guitar instrumental song by Rex Carroll.

There are plans to record new material for CD release as well as a possibility of Rex doing a guitar solo CD.

In 2008, on April the 5th, they played at the Legends of Rock festival in Ennepetal, Germany.

ABOUT SCOTT WENZEL: Scott Wenzel recorded two (2) solo albums; Heart Like Thunder (1993) and Film At Eleven (1995). Scott also appears on the Liberty 'n' Justice albums (Reference: www.shoutlife.com/scottwenzelmusic).

ABOUT REX CARROLL: Mr. Carroll is a well-known and accomplished guitar player, having performed with the bands Whitecross, Fierce Heart, The Bleed, Eden, King James with Robert Sweet & Tim Gaines and The Rex Carroll Band. He not only appeared as the lead guitarist but also served as songwriter and producer for six U.S. and world tours. His playing has been heard on commercials for the Milwaukee Bucks, and he was recently a soloist featured at the Harley-Davidson 100th anniversary celebration. In June, 2004, he place third in the North American Rock Guitar Competition sponsored by Guitar Player magazine and WNED/New York.

Rex holds a Bachelors degree in classical guitar performance from Northern Illinois University. He has 22 ears experience as a guitar instructor for all ages and all levels. Rex teaches everything from rock to acoustic and has developed his own method books for learning good guitar technique. A guitar faculty at The Zion Conservatory of Music.

KING JAMES Discography: 3-Song Demo (1993); Hard Road To Go (Video/1994); King James (1994); The Fall (1997). (Reference: www.shoutlife.com/kingjamesmusic)

REX CARROLL got a slammin new page at myspace.com/rexcarrolltheheal. This page promotes the music of his new rock band THE HEAL. Check it out.

ABOUT BARRY GRAUL: Barry started playing in cover bands for school dances and clubs and wherever he could play. After that chapter in his life had closed a friend played him a song by a Christian band, Undercover. He had no idea this type of music existed. So, in short, He packed up the car, moved to Nashville and for the next 14 years or so played for artists like Whiteheart, DC Talk, Michael Sweet and Whitecross until he joined MercyMe in 2003.
