Message Board Go to the Last Message  Weather-Related Websites Bob "The Lone Chicken" Welch MODERATOR 8/30/07 - 9:33 PM My primary online source for the latest weather info, both near and far, is www.weather.gov, the homepage of the National Weather Service ("NWS"). Once there, you can click on the map or on other links for the very latest current conditions, forecasts, watches and warnings, info on severe weather and hurricanes, and so on. The site is fast and easy to use, and it is updated on a virtually constant basis. I do also like to go to weather.com, the website of The Weather Channel ("TWC"), although it's not quite as fast as the NWS's site. My favorite feature on TWC's site is their photo gallery (weather.com/photogallery)...lots and lots of great weather photos to be found there. Where I live they're the only ones who are close. Took the NOAA spotter training about 3 years ago. Actively listen to SkyWarn spotters on the scanner during severe storms. Track hurricanes in the Atlantic at work so much that a member of our Disaster Recovery team checks the wall in my cube every now and then to see what's up. Radar on the cell phone. Severe weather alerts paged to me. Geesh... I am a weather geek! :O) Just a couple of my favorite weather haunts: NWS National Hurricane Center http://www.nhc.noaa.gov Updates on location, strength and direction of tropical depressions, storms and hurricanes. StormWarn http://www.stormwarn.com Weather information delivery (e-mail & text page). Runs me $2/month for weather watches and warnings sent as e-mail to my cell phone. Can be customized to send only certain types of alerts and only during certain times. Example: Send all watches and warnings 7am-11pm M-F and only tornado warnings 24x7. WxMap System Map http://www.wxchat.com/wxcenter/tropics/atlantic/active.html This is a pretty slick interactive map of tropical, Atlantic and Pacific weather events. NOAA Operational Significant Event Imagery http://www.osei.noaa.gov/Events/Tropical/Atlantic This was a great find and one of my favorite sites. Satellite imagery of tropical storms back to 1992. The site has thumbnails and high-resolution images. I always find it amazing the width of this storm's reach. The temp show's up in the lower right corner and if there is a storm alert an orange box pops up .
