Hippie
From Wikipedia
Hippie or Hippy refers to a subgroup of the 1960s and early 1970s counterculture that found its earliest beginnings in the United States, becoming an established social group by 1965 before declining during the mid-1970s.[1] The developing hippie ethos soon influenced the Beatles and others in the United Kingdom[2] and Europe[3], and they in turn influenced their American counterparts[4]. Hippies, along with the New Left, and the American Civil Rights Movement, are considered the three dissenting groups of the American 1960s counterculture.[5] Eventually, the hippie movement extended far beyond the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe, affecting Australia [6], New Zealand [7], Japan [8], Mexico, Brazil and many other countries.[9].
Hippies were originally part of a youth movement composed mostly of teenagers and young adults between the ages of 15 and 25 years old.[10][11] Inheriting a tradition of cultural dissent from the bohemians and the beatniks, hippies rejected established institutions, criticized middle class values, in the United Kingdom opposed nuclear weapons and in America opposed the Vietnam War, embraced aspects of non-Judeo-Christian religions, championed sexual liberation, promoted the use of psychedelic drugs to expand one's consciousness, and created intentional communities, leading some to describe hippies as a new religious movement.[12] By 1968, self-described hippies had become a significant minority, representing just under 0.2 percent of the U.S. population.[13]
Hippies opposed "political and social orthodoxy", choosing a "gentle and nondoctrinaire" politics that favored "peace, love, and personal freedom",[14][15] perhaps best epitomized by The Beatles' song, All You Need is Love. They perceived the dominant culture as a corrupt, monolithic entity that exercised undue power over their lives,[16] calling this culture "The Establishment", "Big Brother", or "The Man".[17] The hippie ethos spread worldwide through a fusion of early rock, folk, blues, and psychedelic rock. Hippie culture also found expression in literature, [18], the dramatic arts,[19] and the visual arts, including film,[20] posters advertising rock concerts, and album covers.[21][22]

Zen,Yin Yang & Peace where the 3 things hippies believed in the most and this is what they all mean.(in order)
Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism which emphasizes the idea that ultimate truth must be experienced firsthand rather than pursued through study. Zen is noted for its emphasis on manifestation of spiritual practice in daily activities rather than through philosophical explanations, and for its use of special teaching techniques like koans. Subsequent to the introduction of Buddhism to China, Zen developed as a school with its own unique practices, as a result of innovations of Zen teachers and the influence of Chinese traditions. Later it spread to other Asian countries like Japan, Korea and Vietnam, and is today practiced in numerous countries around the world. Most scholars believe that Zen was influenced by Taoism and Yogacara Buddhism. Some scholars believe that Sanlun Buddhism had also made contributions to the formation and development of Zen Buddhism. This Simbol(Yin-Yang) represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents "everything", while the black and white shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called "yin" (black) and "yang" (white), which cause everything to happen. They are not completely black or white, just as things in life are not completely black or white, and they cannot exist without each other.
While "yin" would be dark, passive, downward, cold, contracting, and weak, "yang" would be bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong. The shape of the yin and yang sections of the symbol, actually gives you a sense of the continual movement of these two energies, yin to yang and yang to yin, causing everything to happen: just as things expand and contract, and temperature changes from hot to cold.
Peace is a state of harmony, the absence of hostility. This term is applied to describe a cessation of or lapse in violent international conflict; in this international context, peace is the opposite of war. Peace can also describe a relationship between any parties characterized by respect, justice, and goodwill.
More generally, peace can pertain to an individual relative to her or his environment, as peaceful can describe calm, serenity, and silence. This latter understanding of peace can also pertain to an individual's sense of himself or herself, as to be "at peace" with one's self would indicate the same serenity, calm, and equilibrium within oneself.
