Hi, I am a Roman Catholic nun that lives in a monastery in Spokane, Washington. I am an author of four books and working on a new one to be published in May of 2008. 101 Inspirational Stories of the Power of Prayer.
I like doing lots of things - but since I am in a cloistered monastery - it has to happen in the space of the Monastery grounds. BUT - amazingly I have found a lot of things that one can do without going very far.
Besides writing and publishing books... mine have all been self-published but they still became very popular. Well, in the Catholic market though lots of other people like reading them too. They are pretty much the Catholic/Christian version of Chicken Soup for the Soul.
In 2005 our community took on the management of a full time - 24 hour -5000 watt Am radio station. A lot of the content is satellite fed but I have a weekly program that I do - called 'Faith, Hope and Action' that airs also in Seattle. Radio is fun, on my program I can interview people all over the world by telephone but mostly in the USA and Canada. (See what I mean about lots of things you can do from a simple place?)
I also have a Catholic e-card site called http://franciscancards.com. I've been doing the card site for a long time so I have hundreds of cards now.. I keep adding a few at a time and it steadily grows.
I just heard about Shout Life tonight from a friend that I am taking a course with - a fellow author - Matthew Peterson who is doing a science fantasy book. I haven't read science fantasy for a long time.. but I used to love it! When Matthew's book comes out I will have to read it. Maybe I will get back into reading it again. One of the stories I remember was sort of weird... about this little lady in a shop who was shoplifting... and she had this little bag and she was putting all sorts of things into it... big things, little things and they just disappeared. Sort of like into a black hole... and no one could accuse her of stealing anything.. because it just wasn't there! Can't remember the end... but I was fascinated by that bag. Maybe because in my former "nun" life I was quite a shop lifter. I was always afraid of getting caught! Wow, that bag would sure have come in handy. Anyway, I'm into reform now.. so won't go there. I think that is why God gave me a vocation.. just to get me off the streets.
I have a parrot named Pi. Not a very original name because she is a Pionus parrot. So you can see her name is just abbreviated.... I didn't name her... I am the second owner - I'm sure I could have come up with something more fun than Pi. I thought at first it was like "Pie" but my brother said I should call her "Pi" as in the mathematical formuala. That seems a little better than "Pie." I'm not really the kind of person that would call a bird pie... but what is funny when I give her some fruit.. it comes out like this. "Would you like some Apple, Pi? or how about some peach, Pi?" Pi by the way has some attitudes but we won't go into those right now...service it to say.. that she runs my office - everything must be done strictly according to Pi!
So anyway this is a bit about me. I don't know if Shout life is for me or not. Guess I will find out. Doubt if many "nuns" are here but it looks like a fun and warm place... so thought I would give it a try.
Blessings of Peace!
