I have been influenced throughout my Christian walk by people like Joyce Meyers (Beauty for Ashes), Gary Smalley (Keys to Loving Relationships and The DNA of Relationships), Larry Crabb (Inside Out), and Robert S. McGee (Search for Significance). I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology, earned before I was saved, which I now consider to be more of a degree in a "false religion;" yet it is testimony to the fact that I've always loved trying to understand what makes people tick. Adding Christianity to the mix makes it much easier!
When I found out that I couldn't make enough money to earn a living with my bachelor's degree, I went to vocational school and became a court reporter. That was an interesting interlude in my life. Not only did it pay well, but it gave me excellent grammar and writing skills. Combine those skills with my interest in people and relationships, and you have a writer... or at least you have this writer!

My writing is not complicated. I like to write in the first person, mainly using experiences from my own life. Though my work reads a bit like a novel, it is most often based on true accounts from my own family, though I have from time to time dabbled in fiction works.
I think I write a bit like Neta Jackson, author of the Yada Yada Prayer Group series. I find that I identify with her main character, Jodi Baxter, and tend to write works that center on how the Holy Spirit has worked/is working within me to teach me certain lessons in life, as Neta does with Jodi. I hope that as the reader comes along on my journey, she (or he) will pick up a nugget or two of truth for themselves.

My all-time favorite devotional is Oswald Chamber's My Utmost for His Highest. My favorite books of the Bible are: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hebrews, the four gospels, and Psalms.
For fiction works, I enjoy: Neta Jackson's Yada Yada Prayer Group series; Jan Karon's The Mitford Years series and the Father Tim series; just about anything by Janette Oke, Lori Wick, or Francine Rivers; and I love books by John Grisham - that man is such a masterful writer and story teller.

Don't watch a whole lot of TV, though I must confess to being addicted to ER. I enjoy sappy stories. This is reflected in the movies I like: Sleepless in Seattle; Patch Adams; You've Got Mail; The Holiday; Uptown Girls; While You Were Sleeping; The Family Man; The Cutting Edge. I loved Freedom Writers. Remember the Titans is a classic. Facing the Giants and Flywheel are awesome! And believe it or not, I thought Kung Fu Panda was a kick - no pun intended! You get the idea... =)

Who is Cheri Hardaway? She's the adult child of an alcoholic; a wife; a mom; a grandma; a friend; a writer; a dog lover; a homeschool mom; a former court reporter...
In short, I am simply an ordinary woman. I wear many different hats throughout the course of my days. Truth is, it is not who I am that makes me unique, but rather Who I serve. I am just another ordinary woman, but I serve an EXTRAORDINARY God. My heavenly Father continually takes the broken places in my life - in me - and makes them whole again. And when God restores something, it's always better than brand new!
Life's trials and tribulations can make us feel as if we are alone in a desert wasteland, but the truth is that God never leaves our side. He's right there, waiting; waiting for us to call on Him; waiting for us to get out of His way; waiting for us to acknowledge our need of His saving grace. He longs to bring refreshment to our parched souls. We have only to ask Him. Sounds simple, but it is often the hardest part. I speak what I know, for I have learned this truth - relearn it sometimes daily - the hard way; the art of surrender is not my strong suit. =)
But nothing is ever wasted in God's kingdom. What the enemy intends for our destruction, God uses for our good. I have seen this time and again in my own life. My hope and desire in writing - in sharing my life with others - is to bring a word of encouragement to another life, is to share some of the things God has taught me, in order that my words might be like a stream in the wilderness of someone else's desert.
So then, who is Cheri Hardaway?
I'm a wife. I met my wonderful husband in 1983, on a blind date. Neither of us knew Jesus then, but He knew us; He knew we needed Him, and He knew we needed each other. He brought us together, two love-wounded souls, and challenged us to dare and love again. Throughout our first year of marriage, Christ wooed us to Himself, and just before our first anniversary, we both accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. For the past 24 years, we have walked through life together, experiencing both blessings and trials. For every blessing, we give thanks; through each trial, we are learning to rejoice... in God's faithfulness, in His provision, in His grace and mercy, in the lessons He is teaching us... learning to rejoice in growing up.
I'm a stepmother. I'm a grandma. When my husband and I married, I got an instant family. Hubby came with a three-year-old son. This little guy may have started out a stepson, but he soon became a son of my heart. The past two-and-a-half decades have afforded us many opportunities for growth, and I am proud to be a mom to this special young man. He married a lovely young woman, and they have added three beautiful grandbabies to our family - twin boys and a little girl.
I'm a mom. Once married, we added three more to our little family, another son and two daughters. Our second son took us on an incredible journey as he struggled with addiction in his teen years. When he graduated from Teen Challenge in December 2007, the keynote speaker said this: "Before it was incredible, it was impossible." There were many times when we thought we'd never see our boy walking with the Lord, but God did the impossible. This young man is an inspiration to our whole family, and he is a picture of what God can do with a life fully surrendered to Him.
I'm a homeschool mom. When we first started homeschooling thirteen years ago, I wasn't sure I could do it. It looked like an impossible task, to home educate through high school. We have two graduates, homeschooled through high school, currently attending college. In May of 2009, we will graduate our youngest daughter from high school. This will effectively end my homeschooling career. Once again, God has seen us through.
Remember: "Before it was incredible, it was impossible."
Matthew 19:26 tells us that "with God all things are possible."
I have watched Him take my life - my family, my struggles, my shortcomings - and do incredible things. Let Him make your life incredible too.

A BEAUTIFUL MONDAY TO YOU! You are a jewel in the crown of almighty God, know that and let the riches of His abundance fill your life. Let that which is in Him also be in you.
ARE YOU OBSESSED AND TROUBLED BY YOUR PAST? DO YOU SOMETIMES FORGET THAT CHRIST IS YOUR EVERYTHING?
Are you living in the forgiveness that is yours in Christ each day? Or, are you living in the condemnation of your passed transgressions and stifling all the marvelous benefits of salvation in your life today? God took away your guilt and set you free from the bondage of your past condemnation. And He fully expects you to live in that freedom, and to prosper in the grace and mercy of His infallible love. A person of faith lives in the authenticity (that is the dependability) of the object of that faith, which for us is Christ and His promises. Faith is one's conviction that they are free from all pointless scruples imposed upon them by the finiteness of unenlightened men, and by the oppression of satan. satan will latch on to every opportunity to encourage you to believe you are unworthy to receive the riches of God's promises. He will oppress you with the failures of your past if you will allow him to. Because He knows if you will listen to him you will not live in the freedom to receive all the blessings of your salvation that God intends you to have. You are free from your past and worthy to receive every promise that God has made in His word. If you meet the conditions under which they are given. All the promises of God in Him (Christ) are yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20. We believe, we receive and God is glorified. That's the plan. Let us not try to add to it or subtract from it. It is perfect as it is. Our flesh is not yet perfected; therefore we cannot give credence and authority to it. However, our spirit is perfect and eternally so. We can depend on it, because in spirit we are one with God's Spirit. Therefore we must discard the ramblings of the flesh, and satan's temptations, and satisfy the excellence of our spirit. If we listen to the voices which criticize and slam us over our past sins, our hearts will also condemn us and we will annul our faith to receive from God. Happy is the one who does not listen to and agree with the voices who try to undercut the awesomeness of God's forgiveness. Do not condemn yourself, instead allow God to manifest His works in and through you. If our hearts do not condemn us we have confidence that what God has promised He will undeniably do. Those who doubt the truth of God's forgiveness and salvation promises condemns themselves, because they do not act in faith that God will do what He say if they will do what He commands.
(Rom 14:22) Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. (1Jn 3:21) Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
May the blessings of love, peace and joy fill your life each day! May your life be a blaze of God's glory yielding a harvest for His kingdom!
Love Sylvia :-)
